Functional Safety Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Functional Safety Engineer to lead Functional Safety (FuSa) activities within two agile software development teams. This role combines hands-on leadership with mentorship, aiming to develop the teams' expertise in FuSa over 8-12 months, enabling them to independently handle FuSa-related work thereafter.
The ideal candidate will bring over 12 years of relevant experience, recognized expertise in the field, and a proven ability to deliver high-quality solutions in complex engineering environments. This role demands a forward-thinking approach, a passion for teaching and collaboration, and the ability to drive technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Safety Leadership
- Lead FuSa activities across two agile software teams, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and guidelines.
- Design electrical and electronic systems by defining system purposes, interfaces, and behaviors.
- Secure system and non-functional requirements implementation, ensuring readiness and quality prior to release.
- Actively participate in specification, implementation, and verification loops to validate system aspects.
Mentorship and Team Development
- Teach and mentor the two agile teams on FuSa principles and practices, progressively transferring knowledge and responsibilities.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the teams.
System Engineering and Delivery
- Lead system engineering efforts, integrating and coordinating technical deliveries within the teams.
- Steer concept investigations and explore alternatives to establish robust system-level concepts.
- Drive operational and short-term perspectives to align with project timelines and deliverables.
Strategic Contributions
- Implement and guide system architecture strategies and roadmaps through to delivery.
- Support product management in clarifying capability needs and breaking them down into features/enablers.
- Develop and contribute to technical roadmaps and system architecture strategies.
- Serve as a thought leader within the organization and the industry, providing innovative insights and solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in functional safety and system engineering.
- Expertise: Recognized as a thought leader in FuSa, with a deep understanding of market trends and industry best practices.

Technical Skills:
- Proven experience in designing and implementing electrical and electronic systems.
- Strong understanding of system and non-functional requirements.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and working within Agile Release Trains.

- Demonstrated ability to teach and upskill teams in technical disciplines.
- Master contributor to the education and development of colleagues within and beyond the organization.

- Exceptional leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and drive alignment across teams.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in Functional Safety (e.g., ISO 26262) are highly desirable.
